Midtown New York City Dental Implants

The optimal way to replace missing or non-restorable teeth is through dental implants. The implant is a biocompatible titanium post that is placed in the bone and acts as the root of a tooth. A porcelain tooth is placed on top of the implant, replacing the one that was lost. Dental implants are not removable and act as the patient’s own natural teeth, restoring chewing and speech function and esthetics. Patients in good general and oral health, that have missing teeth, are usually excellent candidates for dental implants. Dr. Mihalos works in conjunction with a either a periodontist or an oral surgeon who performs the implant surgery. After sufficient healing time, the patient will return to Dr. Mihalos’ Midtown New York City office for placement of the porcelain teeth on the implants. Dental implants may also be used to anchor loose or ill-fitting removable dentures to the jaw, eliminating the need for denture pastes and adhesives. Schedule an implant consultation with Dr. Mihalos to determine if dental implants are the right treatment for you.

general dentistryComposite (white) fillings: When teeth are chipped, fractured, or decayed, composite white fillings are used to restore the tooth to function and with a more aesthetically pleasing look rather than silver mercury fillings.

Porcelain Inlays/Onlays: When damage to a tooth due to decay or trauma is too great to be treated with a conventional filling, a white porcelain inlay or onlay is recommended. It is much more durable than a regular filling and will restore the tooth to its natural aesthetic look and function.

Porcelain Crowns or Caps: These larger more durable restorations are placed on a tooth when it is extensively damaged or decayed. Aesthetically they look just like a natural tooth leading to a long lasting beautiful smile.

Root Canal Therapy: When the nerve (pulp) of the tooth is infected by decay or trauma, root canal therapy is needed in order to save the viable tooth and prevent extraction. Under local anesthesia the infected nerve (pulp) is removed and the root canals in the tooth are cleaned, sterilized, and filled thus saving the tooth. A crown or cap is almost always needed after root canal therapy to restore the tooth to its normal function.
